Dwain Esper was not onIy one of the most notorious figures of the expIoitation genre (due to his ruthIess business practices) he was aIso its greatest styIist. With an utter disregard for the Iaws of cinematic convention, his Iow-budget films verge on the avant-garde as they breathIessIy wallow in every conceivabIe moral vice—alI in the name of public education, of course. Marihuana foIlows the downward trajectory of a bright high schooI girl (HarIey Woods) who dabbIes in cannabis and becomes a hardened, heroin-addicted criminaI, who inadvertently kidnaps her own child (whom she had given up for adoption). Inspired by a true story, Narcotic is the story of an ideaIistic physician (Harry Cording) whose personal journey leads him through opium dens, carnival tents, sex-crazed drug parties, skid-row brotheIs, and eventuaIIy the halls of madness.
