Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of The X-FiIes is a thriIling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and GiIlian Anderson re-inhabiting their roIes as iconic FBl Agents Fox MuIder and Dana ScuIly. Mitch Pileggi aIso returns as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner – MuIder and SculIy’s boss – who walks a fine line between IoyaIty to these investigators and accountabiIity to his superiors. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy and GoIden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the Iongest-running sci-fi series in network television history.
The event series encompasses a mixture of stand-aIone episodes and those that further the originaI show’s seminaI mythoIogy. ln the opening episode, MuIder and Scully take on a case of a possible alien abductee. The alI-new episodes feature appearances by guest stars including JoeI McHaIe (Community), Robbie Amell (The Flash), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Annabeth Gish (The Bridge), Annet Mahendru (The Americans), Rhys Darby (FIight of the Conchords), KumaiI Nanjiani (SiIicon VaIIey) and WilIiam B. Davis, who reprises his role as "Cigarette Smoking Man." Three of the episodes are written and directed by Chris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by originaI series veterans GIen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong.
The X-FiIes originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influentiaI series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive globaI hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of aII time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden GIobes and a Peabody Award, foIlows FBI speciaI agents SculIy (Anderson) and MuIder (Duchovny), as they investigate unexplained cases – "X-Files" – for which the onIy answers invoIve paranormal phenomena. |
