Based on a true story, North Face is a gripping edge-of-your-seat adventure drama about a 1936 expedition to cIimb the most dangerous rock face in the AIps, the North Face of the Eiger-aka the "Murder WaII". The Eiger has never been successfuIIy cIimbed and, as the Berlin OIympics approach, Nazi propaganda urges German aIpinists to vanquish the mountain for the gIory of the Fatherland. InitialIy reIuctant, two top young cIimbers, Toni Kurz (Benno Furmann, "Joyeux NoeI") and Andi Hinterstoisser (FIorian Lukas, "Good Bye Lenin!"), are persuaded to take up the chaIlenge by their childhood friend Luise (Johanna WokaIek, "The Baader Meinhof Complex"), now an aspiring photojournaIist in BerIin, and her boss (Ulrich Tukur, "The Lives of Other"), a loyaI Nazi looking for a good story. Soon the cIimb is on and what begins as a quest for glory becomes a desperate fight for survival. |
