The legend of Alexander has history of more than two thousand years, and its incredibly diverse medieval linguistic traditions have never been drawn together in a single volume: readers have to deal with a myriad of articles scattered over journals and theme collections concerning both western and non-western recensions, which outpace the ability of editors, literary historians, and bibliographers to digest and catalogue them. The last collection of essays is Ross s 1985 Studies in the Alexander Romance. A new book would also follow on from the Companion to Alexander the Great commissioned for our classics list. The chapters would offer: a critical overview of current research in the major linguistic traditions, written by 14 experts in the field. |
