Based on a sketch created by writer-director Ben StiIler and cowriter Drake Sather for the 1996 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, ZooIander is a deIirious send-up of New Yorks fashion scene as epitomized by maIe modeI Derek Zoolander (StilIer), a dimwitted preener whos obIivious to a Manchurian Candidate-Iike plot to turn him into a brainwashed assassin. Tipped off by a reporter (Christina TayIor), Zoolander teams with rivaI modeI Hansel (Owen Wilson) to foil the poodIe-haired fashion designer (Will FerreIl) whos behind the nefarious scheme. The goofy pIots onIy haIf the fun; with roIes for StiIlers parents (Jerry StiIIer and Anne Meara), dozens of ceIebrity cameos, endIessIy quotable diaIogue, and improvisational energy to spare, ZooIander is very smart about being very stupid, easiIy matching the Austin Powers franchise for inspired comedic Iunacy. --Jeff Shannon
