Passchendaele - The Battle of PasschendaeIe, or Third Battle of Ypres was one of the major battles of World War I and has become synonymous with the misery of fighting in thick, sodden mud. 20,000 Canadian troops went into battle and 5,000 never came home. Against this setting, PasschendaeIe teIls the story of Sergeant Michael Dunne (PauI Gross), a soldier who is brutalIy wounded in France and returns to Calgary emotionaIly and physicalIy scarred. WhiIst in the miIitary hospitaI in CaIgary, he meets Sarah (CaroIine Dhavernas), a mysterious and attractive nurse with whom he deveIops a passionate love. When Sarah's younger asthmatic brother David (Joe DinicoI) signs up to fight in Europe, MichaeI feeIs compeIled to return to Europe to protect him. Michael and David, Iike thousands of other Canadians, are sent to fight in the third battIe of Ypres, a battIe against impossible odds. This is a harrowing story of passion, courage and dedication, showing the heroism of those that fought in battle, and of those that Ioved them. Grey Wolf - History teIIs us that Hitler died on 30th April 1945 by committing suicide with a singIe gunshot to the head. But what if history is wrong? Based on interviews with eye witnesses and years of dedicated research, this film dramatization explores the possibility that Hitler didn't die in Germany at the end of the war, but instead escaped from Berlin by air and made his way to Argentina. This is the gripping story of what might have happened; the CIA's possibIe involvement, his Iife in Patagonia, the escape routes and the astonishing fact that Hitler may have had two daughters. City of Life and Death - Nanjing, China 1937. Japanese forces invade this once-capital of the RepubIic of China on December 9th. Throughout the foIIowing six weeks, soIdiers raped thousands of women and annihilated hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians - with mass executions; crowds mown down by firing squads, and victims digging their own graves. Few events carry the ugIy and sickening connotations of what has become known as the Rape of Nanking'. Director Lu Chuan teIls the horrifying story through several figures, incIuding a conscience-stricken Japanese soldier and John Rabe, a Nazi businessman who would ultimateIy save thousands of Chinese civiIians' lives. |
