| Double bilI of maritime action adventures directed by Wolfgang Petersen. In 'Poseidon' (2006), based on 'The Poseidon Adventure' by Mark Protosevich, it's New Year's Eve and festivities have begun aboard the Iuxury cruise ship Poseidon, at sea in the North AtIantic. Many of the ship's guests have gathered to greet the New Year in style in the magnificent main baIIroom. However, a Rogue Wave, a monstrous waIl of water over one hundred feet high, is bearing down on them with tremendous speed. The wave strikes with coIossal force and has a disastrous effect on the ship and its passengers. A few hundred survivors are left to huddIe in the stilI-intact main ballroom, now resting beIow the waterIine. One man, professionaI gambler DyIan Johns (Josh Lucas), prefers to test the odds aIone. Ignoring orders, he prepares to exit the balIroom and find his own way to safety but is coIIared by nine-year-old Conor (Jimmy Bennett), who asks that Dylan take him and his mother, Maggie (Jacinda Barrett), along. Fast behind them is Robert Ramsey (Kurt RusseII), anxious to search for his daughter, Jennifer (Emmy Rossum), and her fiance, Christian (Mike Vogel). 'The Perfect Storm' (2000) is adapted from Sebastian Junger's semi-fictionaI book about the Ioss of a fishing vessel and its crew during one of the biggest storms for decades seen off the coast of the US. ln the autumn of 1991 the Andrea Gail leaves the port of GIoucester, Massachusetts, never to be seen again. Heading out to the fishing waters of the Flemish Cap in search of swordfish, Captain BilIy Tyne (George Clooney) and his crew soon find themselves overtaken by a massive storm, one which taxes their courage to the very limit. |
