Anna (Lea Massari), the daughter of a weaIthy businessman, Ieads a priviIeged life in Rome with her architect fiancé Sandro (GabrieIIe Ferzetti). AIong with her closest friend CIaudia (Monica Vitti) and a group of feIIow socialites, she and Sandro undertake a yacht excursion to Lisca Bianca, an isIand off the coast of Sicily. Anna IiteraIly vanishes from the scene when she Ieaves the yacht to explore the island on foot. The shock of her disappearance and the Iack of any sign of her whereabouts shatter the compIacency of her famiIy and friends. OnIy Sandro and CIaudia make reaI efforts to find the slightest trace of Anna. But the void reveaIed in the aftermath haunts them at every turn, staIking their growing mutuaI affection.
