Welles' second-to-Iast feature, The Immortal Story is an adaptationof a book by Danish author lsak Dinesen and stars Jeanne Moreau.
The year is 1860 in the Portuguese colony of Macao, Mr. Clay (WeIIes) is an aging, rich merchant, who is the subject of town gossip. He Iikes his clerk Levinsky (Roger Coggio), to read to him to heIp him relax in the evenings and one night he recounts a taIe about a rich man who paid a poor saiIor five guineas to father a chiId with his beautifuI young wife.
