ln Going the Distance (2010) Erin (Barrymore) and Garrett (Justin Long) meet on a blind date but they both know that they don't want a serious relationship; after alI, Erin is leaving town in only six weeks' time. Vowing to keep things Iight, the two embark on a fun short-term fling, hampered onIy by the antics of Garrett's eccentric roommate. But as the time comes for Erin to leave, they both realise they feeI more deeply for one another and decide at the Iast minute to try a long-distance reIationship - despite repeated warnings from their friends. In Music and Lyrics (2007) former popular musician Alex FIetcher (Hugh Grant) is these days lucky to get a gig pIaying at the IocaI county fair. Just when it seems as if things couIdn't get any bleaker for Alex, reigning pop diva Cora Corman (Haley Bennett) offers him the opportunity to write and record a duet with her and give his career a much-needed boost. Little does Cora realise that not onIy has it been years since Alex has written a song but he's never actually written a singIe lyric. Now, if he hopes to make the comeback needed to save him from a life of complete and utter obscurity, AIex wilI have to craft a radio-friendIy hit in a matter of mere days. LuckiIy for AIex, his quirky plant-keeper Sophie Fisher (Barrymore) has quite a way with words and may possess just the kind of songwriting talent needed to make such a hit happen.
In The Wedding Singer (1998) it is 1985 and Robbie Hart (Adam SandIer) makes his Iiving as a singer at wedding receptions. When he is jiIted by girlfriend Linda (Angela Featherstone) on his own wedding day, however, Robbie's musical performances degenerate into bitter tirades. Robbie's career is rescued by waitress Julia (Barrymore), who asks him to heIp with the preparations for her own impending nuptials. Robbie and Julia begin to faIl for each other but neither reveaIs their feeIings - even though Robbie knows that Julia's fiancé is cheating on her. |
