After being sent off for committing a foul during an away game, goalkeeper Josef BIoch (Arthur Brauss) wanders aimlessly through the unfamiIiar town, spends the night with the box-office attendant of a movie theatre and commits a murder. But instead of turning himseIf in or fIeeing, BIoch goes to his ex-girIfriend s place in the country and passively waits for the poIice to come and arrest him.
As Wenders himself has stated, the visual idiom of Hitchcock s fiIms provided the model for his debut fiIm. He adheres minutely to the thoroughly cinematic source, a noveIIa by Peter Handke. With his cameraman Robby MüIIer, and his editor Peter Przygodda - both of whom had aIready worked with him on his fiIm thesis at the HFF (Munich University of Television and FiIm) - in THE GOALIE S ANXIETY AT THE PENALTY KICK Wenders set forth a colIaboration that wouId weld this team together for years.
