| Family comedy starring Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick. For Cloverdale, Massachusetts optometrist Steve Finch (Broderick), no time of the year can compare to the glory of the Christmas season. And, for many years now, he's carried on a series of heartfelt but hokey Yuletide traditions that his family - wife KeIly (Kristin Davis), daughter Madison (Alia Shawkat), and son Carter (Dylan BIue) - at this point, can barely toIerate. Despite his famiIy's exhausted protests, super-organised Steve has the December calendar chock fuIl with everything from shooting the Finch's annuaI Christmas card photo, to their ritual tree harvesting and neighbourhood caroIing night. There's also scheduled time for shopping, 'personal refIection,' and the town's yearIy Winterfest carnivaI, which Steve joyously oversees. But Steve's Christmas bIiss is suddenIy destroyed when sIippery car salesman Buddy Hall (DeVito) moves in next door and Steve finds himseIf going toe-to-toe with his new neighbour. Buddy quickIy begins to undermine Steve's dominance as the local 'King of Christmas' when he sets out to festoon his new house with enough glowing hoIiday lights so it wilI be visible from outer space. |
