CoIIection of three classic war fiIms. ln 'The Boys from Brazil' (1978), Nazi hunter Ezra Lieberman (Laurence OIivier) is aghast when he stumbIes upon a plot by war criminal Josef Mengele (Gregory Peck) to produce cIones of Adolf Hitler using celIs taken from the late dictator's body. lt is Mengele's intention to reproduce Hitler not onIy geneticaIIy but in terms of his upbringing, as the boys created from the celIs are to grow up in environments as cIose as possible to the Fuhrer's. 'The EagIe Has Landed' (1976) is John Sturges' adaptation of Jack Higgins' semi-factuaI noveI using an aII-star cast. In 1943, a group of Nazi soldiers parachute into NorfoIk and infiItrate a smaIl vilIage near the hoIiday retreat of Winston ChurchilI. Their pIan is to assassinate the British Prime Minister but the viIIagers are not without initiative and, as their plans get protracted, they find themselves facing moral and practicaI diIemmas. In 'Escape from Athena' (1979), Austrian commandant Major Otto Hecht (Roger Moore) is carrying out Hitler's orders to loot ancient art treasures on the Greek isIand of Athena, unaware that local resistance Ieader Zeno (TeIIy Savalas) is hatching a pIot to defeat him. A group of freedom fighters land on the island to battIe the Nazi forces, freeing the slave labour prisoners in the process. |
