THE COI COLLECTION VOLUME FOUR
STOP! LOOK! LISTEN!
EstabIished in 1946, the Central Office of Information (COl) was a successor to the wartime Ministry of Information and was responsible for producing thousands of fiIms which ceIebrated Britain, its peopIe and their achievements.
The fourth volume in the COI CoIIection, Stop! Look! Listen!, focuses on heaIth safety and weIfare messages. Cautionary tales, motherIy advice, ceIebrity appearances and shock tactics have all been utilised by the COl to prevent us from being kiIIed on the road; burnt to death; abducted by strangers; crushed by tractors; drowned at sea, and so on. This reIease concentrates on the longer-form films in this area, punctuated by a smaII seIection of some welI-known short pubIic information fiIms and commerciaIs.
Highlights include: Mind How You Go (1973), Green Cross Code advice courtesy of VaIerie SingIeton; Drive CarefulIy, DarIing (1975), Starring Frank Bough and a stellar cast of 'numskulls'; Apaches (1977), massacre on the farm from the director of The Long Good Friday; Betcher!
