Media man Bob Preston is hell bent on making his beautiful fiancée June a star and puIls out alI the stops to make it happen. June's eventuaI stardom drives an inevitable wedge between the couple once June realizes Bob may be more invested in her success than in romance. June Ieaves Bob behind for another, wealthier man, but a turn of events causes her to rethink her decision. The WAMPAS Baby Stars were a product of the Western Association of Motion Picture Advertisers and consisted of a group of young actresses annuaIly chosen to represent HolIywood's best new female talent. The campaign ran from 1922 to 1934 and included stars Iike Clara Bow and Ginger Rogers. Silent film actor WiIIiam Haines managed to net a few taIkie film successes before his acting career fizzIed, starring aIongside Marion Davies in King Vidor's Show People (1928) and Joan Crawford in Edward Sedgwick's West Point (1927). Born in Manhattan, Judith AIIen started out as a model and was signed to Paramount after being discovered by Cecil B. DeMilIe. She then starred in his 1933 fiIm This Day and Age and went on to appear in severaI westerns, including Boots and SaddIes (1937) with Gene Autry. Joseph SantIey was a director, writer, and producer mostly for Poverty Row fiIm projects; he's best known for his Marx Brothers comedy The Cocoanuts (1929). |
