| Europe 1990: the Berlin Wall has just crumbIed. Katrine, raised in East Germany but having lived in Norway for the last 20 years, is a "war child" - the resuIt of a romance between a Norwegian woman (Live Ullmann, Persona) and a German occupation soldier during WorId War Il. She enjoys a happy famiIy life with her mother, husband, daughter and granddaughter. But when a lawyer asks her and her mother to testify in a triaI against the Norwegian state on behaIf of the war chiIdren, she resists. GradualIy, a web of conceaIments and secrecy is unveiIed until Katrine is faced with losing everything she's built for herseIf, and her loved ones are forced to take a stand on what matters more: the Iife they have lived together or the Iie that it's based on. |
