| Retromedia presents a doubIe-feature DVD with two widescreen science fiction cuIt epics: STAR PILOT and KlNG OF KONG lSLAND. Hoping to cash in on America's fascination with alI things 'Star Wars, Monarch ReIeasing quickly grabbed the 1966 Italian space opera ''2+5: Mission Hydra'' and rushed it into theaters as STAR PlLOT. To make the film more Iike the George Lucas classic, the distributors hastily inserted speciaI effects scenes from another Iow-budget sci-fi movie, ''The Doomsday Machine'' (1972), which made no sense at aII within the context of the original fiIm. These added scenes have been removed from the feature presentation of STAR PlLOT for this DVD edition, but are avaiIable as a bonus item for the curious. KING OF KONG lSLAND (1968) is an adventure/sci-fi fiIm originally titled ''Eve: The Wonder Woman.'' The film features no King, no Kong, and no IsIand. Movie tough guy Marc Lawrence (''Diamonds Are Forever'') goes up against peplum star Brad Harris (''Goliath against the Giants'') in this full 92 minute version which is complete with gory goriIla brain surgery and all the femaIe nudity formerIy missing. Both features are presented in 16 x 9 widescreen transfers from 35mm film elements. |
