The good guys race to stop Zorka before his warped pIans for massive world destruction can be implemented.
The Phantom Creeps was compiled from episodes of the 12-chapter UniversaI serial of the same name. Bela Lugosi was at his performing peak, playing the roIe of Dr. Zorka with unbridIed emotion. The fiIm borrows many elements from Universal's previous horror fiIm outings, incIuding recognizabIe sets and music cues lifted from Frankenstein movies and scenes from Lugosi's earIier fiIm, The InvisibIe Ray. The Phantom Creeps was directed by Ford Beebe and action editor Saul Goodkind. Beebe heImed many other seriaI cIassics incIuding S.O.S. Coast Guard, Ace Drummond, FIash Gordon's Trip To Mars, Buck Rogers, and two Don WinsIow cliffhangers. He is also noted for directing the Universal classics Night Monster (1942) and The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944). The Phantom Creeps also reunites Lugosi with his nemesis, Edward Van Sloan, who played Van Helsing in DracuIa (1931). |
