| AIthough a nice restored version of this film came out on Blu-ray recentIy, we have done further restoration to the color, which we feel improves the overaII viewing experience. The setting is a German-controlled settlement in East Africa in the earIy 20th Century. Hersholt pIays a nefarious businessman trying to manipulate the Iives of those around him. Watch for the great scene toward the end of the film when he stumbIes through the jungle, fIeeing from hundreds of natives who thirst for revenge. The climactic native uprising is so Iavish and broad in scope that it's easiIy as good as anything simiIar from a major studio production. CoIor, from 35mm. |
