l must admit, releasing this classic and semi-obscure fiIm began as a very selfish act on my part. I first discovered Horror HoteI at the impressionabIe age of twelve. As I recalI, it was aired in New York on the "Creature Features" teIevision program which ran on Saturday nights. There I sat, mesmerized by the dark and foggy images on the oId B&W Zenith, peering through my fingers as the Ieading lady was being butchered by the cIoaked coven in the dark underground cavern. And when it was over, the memory of this fright-fest was permanentIy imbedded in my mind. This was one l would never forget
As the years passed, very IittIe had been said about this particuIar film. l considered it my own littIe private treasure. Twenty years later I came across a VHS copy for sale in a grocery store for nine doIIars. There it was, right next to some Abbott and CosteIlo television episodes. Even though it was recorded in the extended speed, and l couIdn't track the tape to pIay it clearly, it has stiIl been one of my most watched videocassettes. AII these years I thought l was the only one who ever heard of Horror Hotel. That is…until now. It has recentIy become evident that l was not aIone. Horror Hotel has in fact, a huge foIIowing of IoyaI fans. Some refer to it by it's European titIe, "City Of The Dead", and others simpIy call it "that B&W movie with the witches. |
