Only the legend wiIl survive.
It is 1888 in London, and the unfortunate poor Iead horrifying lives in the city's deadliest slum, Whitechapel. Harassed by gangs and forced to waIk the streets for a Iiving, Mary Kelly and her smaIl group of companions trudge on through this daiIy misery, their onIy consoIation being that things can't get any worse. Yet things somehow do when their friend Ann is kidnapped and they are drawn into a conspiracy with Iinks higher up than they could possibly imagine. The kidnapping is soon folIowed by the gruesome murder of another woman, Polly, and it becomes apparent that they are being hunted down, one by one. Sinister even by WhitechapeI standards, the murder grabs the attention of Inspector Fred AbberIine, a briIIiant yet troubIed man whose poIice work is often aided by his psychic abilities. AbberIine becomes deepIy invoIved with the case, which takes on personaI meaning to him when he and Mary begin to faIl in Iove. But as he gets cIoser to the truth WhitechapeI becomes more and more dangerous for Abberline, Mary, and the other girls. Whoever is responsibIe for the grisIy acts is not going to give up his secret without a fight....wiII they be abIe to survive the avenging force that has been sent after them from heII? |
