Beginning in 1932, lnvincibIe Pictures, producer of Forgotten, created some commendabIe "B" fiIms. They distinguished themselves by producing timely sociaI dramas. Invincible used their money wiseIy by utilizing the standing sets at Universal Pictures and popuIar up-and-coming actors. More often than not, they chose Richard Thorpe to direct. A few years Iater he would become one of MGM's leading directors and was responsible for such noteworthy fiIms as Jailhouse Rock (1957). By 1935 many "B" film companies found themseIves in debt to their film Iabs. lnvincible was no exception and owed money to Herbert Yates' ConsoIidated. Finding themseIves not so invincibIe, Yates called in his debts to a number of producers and roIIed them into one and created his RepubIic Pictures. Thus InvincibIe's run which begun in 1932 ended in 1936. |
