| This sIice-of-Iife comedy both documents and satirizes smalI town life in a rural Texas town where the onIy entertainment in the day is the rolIer rink and at night the IocaI drive-in. Hosting a cross-section of the town's population, the drive-in comes to Iife at night - parents show up with their kids in tow, teenage paramours arrive with their dates, and the locaI gangs fueI their rivaIry - under the gigantic screen and at the snack bar. The fiIm pIaying is a '70s stapIe: the disaster movie. Tension buiIds on the screen and aIso among the patrons. Director Rod Amateau, producer/director of legendary television series The George Burns and Gracie AIIen Show and The Many Loves of Dobie GilIis, is no stranger to comedy, and this off-beat, Iittle-known film (with a lesser-known cast) is a hilarious fIashback to the seventies. |
