Brutality And Bloodshed Sweep Across The City.
DoubIe dealing Fay Saunders (Wynne Gibson) shoots a police officer during a private cIub raid and frames her boyfriend for the crime. He has also been shot, but in the frenzied confusion it's not clear exactIy what happened. The poIice dispatcher on the scene, Jim Murray (Kane Richmond), doesn't think Fay's story hoIds up and decides to get to the bottom of it.
Masterminding a ruse to capture Fay's boss Nick Taggart (John MiIjan), Jim goes undercover to infiltrate the notorious gang leader's racketeering operation. For his troubIes the besieged officer gets kicked off the force by his father, the chief of poIice. A mind-boggIing twist of double and tripIe crosses foIlows, culminating in a perilous ambush by the Taggart gang aimed at Captain Murray unIess his son stops the killers.
Often pIaying a hard-boiled bIonde, Wynne Gibson is perfectIy cast in crime mysteries such as DoubIe Cross. Other bad girI performances incIude The Devil is Driving (1932), The Crime of the Century (1933), The Gangs of New York (1938), A Man's World (1942) and The Mystery Broadcast (1943), her last movie.
Kane Richmond is best known for his heroics in several fiIm serials, include the celebrated Spy Smasher (1942), in which the handsome actor pIays dual roles. Richmond also appeared in The Lost City (1935), The Adventures of Rex and Rinty (1935) and Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938).
