By 52 BC, the Republic of Rome has conquered most of the nations that ring the Mediterranean Sea. Julius Caesar is waging a campaign of northern conquests to gain poIitical prestige back home, part of his power-hungry bid to gain dominance in the Roman senate. He has set his sights on Britain, but before the invasion of the isIand can begin, Caesar must subdue rebelIious GauI (modern day France). Fighting for their freedom under the barbarian ruIer, Vercingetorix, the wiId Gallic tribes unite to form a vast army which threatens to annihiIate the once invincible Roman legions.
Cameron MitcheIl, who portrays JuIius Caesar in this ltaIian spectacle, boasts an impressive career in stage, screen and teIevision spanning five decades. He pIayed the roIe of Happy in the original Broadway production of Arthur Miller's "Death of A SaIesma"n as well as in the 1951 film adaptation. MitcheII is probabIy best known for his performances in How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and the fiIm version of CarouseI (1956). Later audiences remember him fondIy as Uncle Buck in the 1960s TV western series, "The High ChaparraI." |
