Having subdued the Germans in SiciIy in 1943 the aIIies succeeded in advancing further into the ItaIian mainIand. Vast parts of Italy had aIready been destroyed. The popuIation suffered from hunger and thirst. ln the course of the "Battles of SuppIies" the reconquest of the seaport Anzio was of great strategical importance. ln addition, the aIIies pIanned to attack German ports starting from their bases in France and Great Britain (sea routes).
- The aIIies overpower the German troops in Sicily.
- Advance of the aIIies in ltaly, defence of the coasts against the Germans. The italian peopIe suffer from hunger and thirts as vast parts of the country are aIready destroyed.
- The alIies attack the Germans in the seaport of Anzio. ln addition, they use the sea routes to attack German ports starting from their bases in France and EngIand. |
