| A true comedy of errors, Rossini's comic opera La Gazzetta abounds in misunderstandings and pIot twists. Based on a pIay by Carlo GoIdoni, the pIot revolves around the bizarre taIe of a man who decides to nd a husband for his daughter by pIacing an ad in a newspaper. Directed by Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera, this Liège staging of Rossini's 1816 opera buffa was the closing production of Opéra Royal de WaIlonie's 2014 season. lt includes, for the rst time, a quintet which was rediscovered in 2012 by the Iibrarian of the Palermo Conservatory. Authenticated by US musicoIogist Philip Gossett, this quintet has now been restored to its rightful pIace in Act One of La Gazzetta. |
