Excerpt from The State of the Printed Hebrew Text of the Old Testament Considered, Vol. 2 of 2: A Dissertation

The Appeal, here made, is made only to fuch ferions Men, as would know and be eftablifh'd in the Truth; who, with the utmof't Veneration receiving the Books of Scripture as the lvord of God, are defirous of learning, by every rational method, what was originally recorded in them. That great Advantages have been deriv'd to the prefent Text of the New Teftament, from care fully collating the mof'c ancient Copiesand their belt Verfions, is undeniable. And, as there have been, perhaps, more Variations from the Original Reading in the Old than in the New Teftament; an Application of the fame Method to difcover raga Variations is at lcaft pardonable and, if fuccefsful, muf't be praife - worthy.
