    Inhalt:
This work chronicles the authors' huge experience on surgery of 1767 patients with vertebrobasilar aneurysms. The first two chapters discuss the history of posterior circulation aneurysms surgery and contain a full description of the clinical material analyzed in this volume. The next four chapters are devoted to basilar bifurcation aneurysms which form more than half of the series. Thanks to Dr. Drake's pioneering work, these aneurysms - once held to be the most difficult ones - have now results comparable to aneurysms in other locations. The next ten chapters deal with each main location of vertebrobasilar aneurysms with short comments on anatomy and clinical picture of the lesions. The main emphasis is on the personal experience of surgical techniques and results. Special problems of multiple, incidental and pediatric aneurysms are dealt within the next chapters followed by a discussion of the timing of surgery. Each chapter is supplemented by tables of surgical outcome as related to preoperative grade, aneurysms size, patient age, surgical method and timing. Two final chapters summarize neuroanesthesiological problems and complications of surgery for all vertebrobasilar artery aneurysms. "... a unique volume that will perhaps never be equaled in its field. It offers an extremely detailed analysis of the trials and tribulations of the most difficult area of aneurysm surgery, and will likely represent the definitive statement on surgery of posterior circulation aneurysms for generations to come ... This monumental work will remain a milestone in neuroscience ..." Journal of Neurosurgery "... I recommend this book to all interested in vascular neurosurgery and I congratulate the authors." C. Raftopoulos/Acta Neurologica Belgica "... it is likely to respresent the last such text published of its sort ... it holds considerable historic importance as well as providing an irreplaceable experience." British Journal of Neurosurgery "... a highly readable book ... a must for the neurosurgical trainee about to tackle his first posterior circulation aneurysm ... should find its way into the library of every neurosurgical training programme ... a very important historical document ..." Neuroradiology
