Francis Hueffer (1845-89) was born and studied music in Germany, but moved to London in 1869 to pursue a career as a critic and writer on music. His Musical Studies of 1880 is a collection of essays on Beethoven, Chopin, French opera, Schopenhauer and of course Wagner.
