The majority of the books on functional equations remain unreachable to the curious and intelligent precollege student. This attempts to eliminate this disparity. It opens with a review chapter on functions, before presenting a working definition of functional equations and explaining the difficulties in trying to systematize the theory. Each chapter is complemented with solved examples, the majority of which are taken from mathematical competitions and professional journals.
