We can escape places, but only to find ourselves in another one. As human beings or virtual avatars we need to find a place. This pop-photo-art-project explores the question of iconic places in a playful, fascinating and provocative way. With satirical and serious intent, the idea of the iconic is visually aestheticised by setting it up next to the ironic on a razors edge. The images challenges the question of whom or what decides the becoming of something iconic. An axiom? Or influenced by our world's complex system of connections and flows of humans, ideas, economies, pop culture, social media and more. This book presents the first collection of iconic ironic places. Rumour has it the local metropolis of Skövde (50.000 inhabitants), Sweden, carries a "big-town-complex". It sets the first backdrop for the world iconic places superimposed, and for the exploration of the iconic idea.
