It was the Crimson Tide's 118th overall season, 78th as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and its 19th within the SEC Western Division. The team was led by head coach Nick Saban, in his fourth year, and played their home games at Bryant?enny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They finished the season with a record of 10?(5?in the SEC) and defeated Michigan State 49?in the Capital One Bowl. Entering the season as defending national champions, Alabama began the 2010 season as the preseason No. 1 team in both the AP and Coaches' Polls. Favored to win a second consecutive SEC championship and be in contention for the national championship, the Crimson Tide opened the season 5?with victories over San Jose State, Penn State, Duke, Arkansas and Florida. However, Alabama closed the regular season with a 4?record and losses to South Carolina, LSU and Auburn in the Iron Bowl to finish fourth in the Western Division.
