a.k.a. Paul Little, Max Steiner, Sam, Rex Reamer, Video Paul, Paul Little, Sam Smythe
Porn Star Max Hardcore has been called a lot of things during his career in the industry. Sadistic misogynist. Violent drunk. Porn visionary. The one label that everyone can agree on, though, is this one: success. Max Hardcore has carved out a unique niche for himself in the porn world that no one could ever duplicate, as much as the Rob Blacks and Al Bordas of the world might try.
Max Hardcore was born as Paul Little in Racine, Illinois in 1959, one of six children of a working class Catholic family. He was a hyperactive, often troublesome child whose aggressive tendencies at his Catholic school eventually got him put on medication. After high school, he dabbled in construction work and photography. He had an epiphany of sorts one night while watching a porn video from John 'Buttman' Stagliano. Max figured that if Stagliano could be a porn big shot, anyone could.
He followed his older brother Peter out to California in 1990, his sights set on porn stardom. A meeting with producer Bobby Hollander led to Max being asked to produce segments for his 'Mr. Peepers' line of amateur videos. It was while shooting these sessions that Max hit on his own unique sex shooting style.
He learned to shoot videos not as long features, but as short vignette-style segments. The amateur world also taught Max that sex was hotter when accompanied by its natural sounds rather than being drowned out by swelling music. These two factors were to prove invaluable in Max's own work.
Max Hardcore really shot into the porn world's consciousness in 1992, when Zane Entertainment hired him to produce his own line of films. The result was 'The Anal Adventures of Max Hardcore' series, which paved the way for a controversial career, indeed. Max's signature style was on eye-popping display for all to see, and not everyone liked what they saw.
Max Hardcore became known for his rough-edged, wild-eyed sessions with young, seemingly naive industry newcomers. His hard pounding, dirty talking, anally fixated, raunchy and raw sex scenes often included gals dressed as young waifs, which made the out-there hi jinx all the more shocking. Toss in some choking and speculum probing and you've got the makings of porn's most controversial director.
Max Hardcore went on to produce the 'Cherry Poppers' line for Zane before forming his own company, FilmWest Productions, in 1994. At FilmWest, Max's series include 'Max World,' 'Anal Auditions' and 'Hardcore Schoolgirls.' He claims that he's making escapist fare for a certain segment of the porn community, even as critics howl about his violent tendencies. Love him or loathe him, Max Hardcore has made an undeniable mark on the porn scene. He continues to crank out controversial, iconoclastic videos that always push the envelope of acceptable behavior. He is without a doubt one of the most unique sex shooters in porn history.
