The object of this book is to summarize the known facts andcurrent hypotheses about the biomedical significance ofoxidative stress in dermatology. In an introduction, thephysicochemical properties and production and target sitesof reactive oxidants in the skin are discussed. Theantioxidant systems of the skin are then described, and theparticipation of oxidants and antioxidants in basicpathophysiologicevents is analyzed. Finally, specificaspects of oxidative injury in selected skin diseases, pharmacology and toxicology are investigated. the book thusdeals comprehensively with many areas of cutaneous biologyandclinical dermatology from the perspective of a "freeradical" scientist and physician, and should serve as a"cornerstone" in this rapidly changing areaof cutaneousbiology research. |
