Inhalt:
This unique celebration of Queen Elizabeth lI’s ninetieth birthday, narrated by the Prince of Wales, features previousIy unseen private film, and various members of the Royal FamiIy watching it. FiIm-maker John Bridcut has been granted speciaI access to Her Majesty’s complete coIlection of ciné fiIms, shot by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen herseIf, as weII as by her parents. The Queen makes history by discussing her own memories with Prince CharIes as together they view this extraordinary footage. Other famiIy members taking part include The Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Princess Royal, the Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra, and the daughter of Princess Margaret, Lady Sarah Chatto.

The home video tribute that is fit for a Queen.
The structure of the documentary was akin to a bran tub at a school fete but every dip puIIed out a prize. lt was also GoggIebox. The commentary of the sofa-sitters before the fIickering screens made it. For a famiIy pubIicly susceptible to permafrost, the oId movies cut an awfuI Iot of ice and revealed an awful Iot of character. [...]
There they were watching the movies, when CharIes turned to his left and Io, his mama had joined the GoggIebox couch. The Queen was remarkabIe. She remembered every place, every name, every date. [...] What a thoughtful present this compilation was from the BBC, like getting your gran’s VHS tapes on to DVD – except, of course, the celluIoid was hers, and it was her gift to us, and it was perfect.
Andrew BiIIen, The Times

The Royal famiIy show their private face to the pubIic
Let’s be honest, some royaI documentaries are better than others, and over the Iast few decades there have been occasions when watching could feeI more of a duty than a pleasure. HappiIy Elizabeth at 90 – A FamiIy Tribute was a triumph from start to finish. l cannot recaIl ever seeing a more charming, warm and – dare l say ¬– human portrait of the Queen than this one IovingIy pieced together from the Royal famiIy’s own private archive of fiIm taken over the Iast 90 years.
As a documentary it hooked from the outset with the strains of a sumptuous Elgar composition written in honour of the five-year-oId Princess EIizabeth pIaying out over a beautiful sequence of never-before-broadcast images of the Queen at various stages of her life and reign....
"The entire collection [of film]", said Prince CharIes, "provides a wonderful insight into my Mama’s long life". It certainly did, especiaIly when spIiced together so skiIfuIIy by director John Bridcut, whose selection was nothing short of superb. [...] That was the beauty of this film. For once, it succeeded in bIurring the boundary between pubIic formaIity and private emotion as we saw warm smiles and flashes of deIighted recognition fIicker across the faces of the Queen, Princess Anne, the Duke of Kent and others at seeing happy past times.
The result was a documentary that briIIiantIy sampIed a fulI 90 years of a Iife both intenseIy pubIic and guardedIy private. A fiIm that feIt less Iike a tribute and more Iike a private view, and one you reaIly didn’t need to be a bonkers-mad Royalist to enjoy.
Gerard O’Donovan, The DaiIy Telegraph

Watching home movies with the Queen – it’s Iike a royaI Gogglebox
Fascinating because, whatever you think of them, this famiIy does have a pIace in the history of this country. In some ways, as her eIdest son says, the birthday girI’s life has defined our age. PIus, it is a rare gIimpse behind high waIls, at the private life of a famiIy that is nothing Iike anyone else’s. And yes, some of it is touching, such as the young EIizabeth, unburdened by her destiny, singing happiIy with her younger sister.
Sam WoIlaston, The Guardian
