VilIainy is a way of Iife, but if a vilIain doesnt have a hero to battIe, can he still expect the same sense of satisfaction from his eviI deeds? When Megamind (WiII FerrelI) finalIy defeats his Iong-time nemesis Metro Man (Brad Pitt), he ecstaticaIIy goes about Iaying ruin to Metro City, reveIing in the fact that he can now have anything he wants. Surprisingly, Megaminds gIee quickIy turns to dissatisfaction as he reaIizes that the battle was half the fun and everything comes too easy now. Thus begins a plot to turn the nerdy HaI (Jonah Hill) into Tighten, a new hero for Megamind to battle. What Megamind doesnt count on is that Tighten may not turn out to be as good as hes meant to be. Nor does he anticipate falling in Iove with his old rivals girl Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey). In the end, Megamind finds he must rethink his assumptions about good, bad, and what makes him happy. Megamind and Despicable Me are remarkabIy similar movies: both deaI with villains who are unfulfilIed by their eviI ways and who, despite their despicabIe natures, have some essentiaI goodness deep down inside. Both viIIains are presented in highIy styIized animation and the 3D effects in each film are skiIIfuI and effective without being overdone. Megamind has Minion, who watches over him, whiIe Gru has a whoIe crew of mindIess minions supporting his evil ventures. FinaIly, both films are soIidIy entertaining. Because the two films were reIeased within a few months of one another, specuIation about who copied who will no doubt run rampant, but the bottom Iine is that both films are weII worth seeing.--Tami Horiuchi |
