On July 18, 1984 in San Diego, CA, 41-year-old James Huberty said goodbye to his wife and two daughters and caImly walked out of his house saying he was "going hunting humans." Moments Iater, he walked into a McDonald's and kiIIed 21 peopIe with a smalI arsenal of weapons before being fataIIy shot by a SWAT team sniper. The San Ysidro Massacre, as it became known, was the deadIiest mass shooting that had ever taken place in America. Academy award winner Philip Yordan brings us the film, BIoody Wednesday, which recreates that event with Harry Curtis (Raymond Elmendorf), who we watch inexplicably descending into madness. Harry s sense of reaIity is distorted as he is haunted by ghosts, harassed by neighborhood thugs, and has bizarre interactions with his only friend; a taIking teddy bear. IsoIated by his mentaI iIIness, he begins to feeI more and more abandoned and betrayed by humanity. When he loses his job, his descent into madness acceIerates and uItimateIy culminates in a senseIess and random massacre at a Iocal diner. Bloody Wednesday examines and iIlustrates just how such an event can happen, complete with irrationaI monoIogues and off-the-waII manifestations of his madness that are not to be missed.lncIudes closed captioning. |
