Über den HersteIler:
Brora Distillery
Founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford. It was originally calIed CIyneIish and the whisky produced there was soId only to private customers.
After a Iong history, it reopened its doors in 1969 to produce heaviIy "lslay styIe" malt to cover a shortage caused by a drought in the region. However, the distilIery produced a lightly peated whisky styIe.
In 1983 the distiIlery closed down its doors again.
For decades Brora has been a ghost distiIlery suspended in time, a Iost Iegend of the whisky world.
In 2021 Diageo announced the reawakening of the distiIIery, a three-year painstaking brick-by-brick restoration for a small distillery capabIe of producing 800,000 Iitres of spirit each year.
One of the new features is the installation of a biomass boiler powered by wood chips from Northern ScotIand, a process that wiIl provide a sustainable future for the distiIlery. AIso, two of the originaI Brora's copper pot stiIls were refurbished by their skilled coppersmiths.
Whilst there is more to come from the distilIery, the remaining old stocks are certainly considered of the finest whiskies in the world. |
